International Student Concerns Committee

The purpose of the International Student Concerns (ISC) Committee is to monitor and address the concerns of international graduate and professional students and postdocs at the University of Kentucky. The ISC Committee works with other Committees in the GSC and organizations around campus (e.g., UK International Center) to find new alternatives to empower international graduate students.

The ISC does this by:

Listening to the concerns of international graduate students
Helping international students through their graduate studies
Informing domestic people about the importance of international graduate students
Promoting cross-cultural experiences to create a collaborative environment
Communicating any relevant information for international graduate studies
Finding new alternatives to empower international graduate students

Meet the Team

ISCC Co-Chair: Amanda Gyesi

Amanda Efua Gyesi is a Ph.D. student in the College of Communication and Information with research interests in interpersonal communication, family communication and stigma representation often through the lens of critical cultural theories. Her work critically examines how narratives shape identity, inclusion, and social belonging, particularly within African and diasporic contexts. As Co-chair for the International Student Concerns Committee, Amanda is committed to advocating for the needs and experiences of international graduate students in UK. Originally from Ghana, she brings a culturally grounded and community-driven perspective to both her scholarship and leadership roles. In her free time, Amanda likes to cook, listen to music and learn new skills.
